Nio Firefly – Chinese competitor in the compact class will come in 2025
With its new sub-brand Firefly, the Chinese manufacturer Nio also wants to attack outside the luxury segment. The Firefly compact car will be released in China in April and is expected to come to Europe in the first half of the year.
The Chinese premium manufacturer Nio is introducing a new sub-brand: Firefly. With a playful design, Firefly's first compact car is expected to win new customers for Nio outside the premium segment from April. The Firefly is also scheduled to come to Europe in the course of the first half of 2025.

Nio Firefly – Everything we know so far
The Nio Firefly was unveiled during Nio Day at the end of December 2024, but we don't have too many technical details yet. The focus of the sub-brand is definitely more on the design, as can be seen in the pictures of the Firefly. The design of the headlights and taillights, each with three rings, is memorable and a good unique selling point of the new brand.
From the side, the Firefly is easily recognizable as a compact car and its dimensions make it a serious competitor for Renault 5 & Co. With dimensions of 4,003 mm high, 1,781 mm wide and 1,557 mm high, it fits perfectly into city traffic as an electric compact car. The Firefly is powered by the rear axle and an engine with an output of 105 kW. We don't have exact figures on the battery size yet, but the Firefly, like the Nio models, will have a replaceable battery.
Despite the compact dimensions, however, there should be enough space for luggage and passengers. The wheelbase, which is just under 2.6 metres long, ensures that there is room for five people despite a load volume of up to 1,250 litres (with the rear seat folded down). In addition, there is also a frunk with 92 liters of space in the front. Further details about the Firefly are not yet known, as soon as new information is available, we will of course keep you up to date.
Nio Firefly – sales launch and price
We do not yet have a firm date for the market launch of the Nio Firefly in Europe. The car is initially scheduled to be launched in China in April 2025. However, the manufacturer has already announced that the Firefly will also be released in Europe in the first half of 2025. The Firefly is priced from 148,800 yuan, which corresponds to about 20,000 euros. However, the price in Europe is likely to be significantly higher, especially due to the EU's punitive tariffs. If Nio wants to keep to its own schedule, we should get concrete details of the European market launch in the next few months.
